How I got started

I’ve had a camera in my hand since I was about 10 years old. It wasn’t until I had an opportunity to do photography professionally that I started to think of this as more than just a hobby. My beginnings were the same as most, I picked up a camera and started taking pictures. I was always more interested in the presentation than the subject matter, and I typically took photos that broke the rules on what a good photo had to be. As I got older I never stopped looking for ways to take photos that expressed mood, feeling, and were relate-able to the viewer.

My Schooling

I went to the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire and received a degree in graphic design. The best part of this degree was that photography was one of the focuses that I could purse. Through my time at the university I was given the opportunity to work closely with some great photographers in the Eau Claire area. I even hosted a photography gallery entitled “Living in Wisconsin” which featured local photographers demonstrating their individual perspectives on Wisconsin life.

I continued to take photos after college but mostly for my own benefit. I was also asked by my employer at the time to assist on some photos shoots for our clients, but as photography hadn’t been my primary focus I hadn’t taken it too seriously.

From Hobby to almost Profession

In 2016 I was asked to photograph a wedding by someone who had seen my work. She recognized that I was producing really great photos and wanted my style and unique perspective to help capture her special day. I agreed to do the job and afterwards realized very quickly that others saw my photos the way I did. As I produced the edited photos from the wedding people responded so positively, in fact, that I couldn’t help but consider a future in the world of photography.

After having several bad experiences with local photographers finding out they would charge way too much and produce way too little. In some cases they produce nothing at all without me having to pay extra for the photos themselves. I couldn’t understand why anyone would want this or how it was even affordable for most families. I knew I needed to do something, and it was at that moment that I started advertising as a professional photographer.

I say almost profession because I am technically a web programmer and continue to work for my employer locally here in Eau Claire, WI. The hours are flexible and my boss understands my passion for photography so it works out really well for everyone. However, sometimes I have to ask clients to be a little flexible and understanding with their schedules to accommodate for mine. In the end I offer great pricing and an excellent product so the photos I do produce are always worth waiting for!

My Mission, My Promise

I keep my prices low so that everyone can afford to have professional photos capture their most precious memories. I believe everyone deserves great photos for those special moments that you want to remember forever. I produce as many photos as I can (based on package or hours of a session) and I always give you everything, including the unedited originals, on a disc that you own and can do with what you want. I’m always upfront with my costs and I never expect you to pay for anything you don’t like.

I also offer free consultations to anyone curious about my process or wanting more information regarding event planing, timetables, style preferences, general recommendations, etc… For more information about me or to schedule a consultation please contact me.
